Planner's Comments:

One way or another it seems that this event was destined to be held in snow! Hopefully the freezing conditions didn’t detract from your enjoyment too much. It made for a chilly experience running the start, but I was rewarded with a rather magical winter wonderland for control collecting. Thanks to Ralph Phillips and Rob Lines for their help with that.
100 Acre Wood isn’t the highest quality area we have and the map is getting a bit old particularly in relation to the rhododendron thickets, but off the very boggy paths there are some very pleasant sections of open forest which I tried to plan the courses to allow you to run through. Judging by the comments I heard you enjoyed the challenge of the courses despite the physical nature of the terrain.
In addition to the control collectors I’d like to express my thanks to Julia Jarvis for her excellent suggestions about the courses, Julia and Steve for doing map sales, Les Hooper for organising, and Mike Ralph and the SI team.

SI Team Post

A nice cold day with some wet snow made for damp conditions underfoot and snow in your face. A well planned event by Alan. SI went well, and everyone seemed to enjoy the event if not the cold. Thank you to all helpers and Alan.

SOG Series Info

SOGs are friendly club events where children and newcomers are very welcome. Yellow and Orange courses are suitable for children to run on their own with a bit of practice. Adults are welcome to shadow children until they are confident to go on their own. Green and Blue courses are run or walked by any age group - you can race competitively or just enjoy the woodland.

There are two series of events - autumn and spring of approximately 8 events each. Electronic timing (SI) is used.

Help on the day always appreciated.

Terrain Description

Mixed woodland of varying runnability. The area is very wet and muddy after recent rain and there are some steep-sided valleys which are very slippery. The area contains a disused quarry which courses have been planned to avoid, although competitors on the Orange course go near it. There are a number of fences in the area which competitors need to take care when crossing.
