Report

This was a great event to plan, I like Selhurst. I did a short training orienteering run here with Peter here a couple of years ago and love its sheer runnability in the beech woods.
.
Michael and I identified the control sites in the beautiful autumn, with superb autumn colours. It rained, the sun shone, we had everything.

Michael and Steve then turned my courses into a professional product with wise comments. I now have a better idea about control descriptions.

Then on the day it was lovely, we had no retirements or missed controls on yellow and orange. It was fast out there and everybody was complimentary, so what more do we ask for ?

Finally thank you to everybody who helped:

Organiser and planning helper and mentor Michael Merritt
SI team Penny Parker Samantha Gibson, Mike Ralph and Joe Barrett
Car park - Sue and Barrie Pearson and Joe House
Start and control put out - David Neville
Control collectors - Ed Nichols, David Neville, Neil Crickmore, Garry Greenstreet, Matt Hill
Armchair controller Steve Blount
Land permission Andy Hannaford
Safety Karen Ashworth
Training Kasia Lisowski and Karen, Bea Waters, Anna, Peter and Emma Hooper
Map alterer Chris Hooker
Wise words and map printer Neil Crickmore
And of course, Dave Marsh.

Coaching for older juniors (currently running Orange or Light Green courses) will be led by Anna. This week we will be progressing our work on contours and bearings. Please arrive at 9:15, ready for a 9:30 start. If you're not already signed up on Spond, do let Anna know if you wish to attend. Note parking details below.

Coaching for adults is also available, again working on bearings. Please arrive at 9:15, ready for a 9:30 start. Do let Anna know if you wish to attend.

Note parking and meeting point for the coaching is approx 100m West of the main carpark in the subsidiary car park on forest tracks.

Once the subsidiary car park is full, people attending coaching will park in the main car park and walk down by forestry track to the coaching.

SOG Series Info

SOGs are friendly club events where children and newcomers are very welcome. Yellow and Orange courses are suitable for children to run on their own with a bit of practice. Adults are welcome to shadow children until they are confident to go on their own. Green and Blue courses are run or walked by any age group - you can race competitively or just enjoy the woodland.

There are two series of events - autumn and spring of approximately 8 events each. Electronic timing (SI) is used.

Help on the day always appreciated.
