Planners Comments:

Due to Chailey Common being a relatively small area with an abundance of path and features I decided to plan the courses in a middle style with lots of changes of direction and plenty of controls. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their runs. It was good to see plenty of new faces that hopefully, will come along to another event soon!

As always the event could go ahead without volunteer help so thank you to the SI team (Joe, Mike, Penny & Ralph), parking (Tim, Linda & Mike), road crossing (Alan & Clive), registration (Kate & Di), control collecting (Chris & Neil), Karen for the risk assessment and Steve for checking over the courses / help on the day.

RouteGadget

Is a web app for sharing and comparing orienteering routes. You can draw your own route or upload a GPS track from your watch. It also allows you to watch an animated replay with a simulated mass start.

SOG Series Info

SOGs are friendly club events where children and newcomers are very welcome. Yellow and Orange courses are suitable for children to run on their own with a bit of practice. Adults are welcome to shadow children until they are confident to go on their own. Green and Blue courses are run or walked by any age group - you can race competitively or just enjoy the woodland.

There are two series of events - autumn and spring of approximately 8 events each. Electronic timing (SI) is used.

Help on the day always appreciated.

Terrain Description

Low lying heathland, very wet in places after recent rain (many depressions etc contain water). Runnability generally very good, though quite slow where there is thick gorse (dark green on map). Lots of paths and tracks, note many seasonal paths are not mapped.

Dog restrictions

Please keep under complete control if taken onto the courses. The area is popular with dog walkers and horse riders. Note that our continued permission is dependent on us not upsetting the locals

Facilities

None. Bring your own refreshments.
