Report
When I left home this morning it was glorious. However, by the time I had reached Lancing the rain was starting! And the next 2+ hours saw a lot of rain, much of it horizontal, with most of it falling while I was setting up the courses. The most notable effect, apart from being soaked through, was that the quarry area turned into a skidpan! Hence the caution about it at the start.
Unfortunately, early runners got a soaking too while later runners were able to enjoy much drier and warmer conditions, so kudos to those of you that went out early!
My aim today was to give you nice fast courses with some twisting and turning to try and throw you off-line. Also, knowing how quickly the area can change, I tried to choose control sites that would remain both obvious and accessible. Times were much as I had hoped, and all competitors were in well before course closing time meaning that everything had been cleared away by 12:30.
As always, these events can’t run without a team of volunteers and so I would like to extend my thanks to Jill and Steve (for permissions and running the start), Mike G (for printing maps), Mike R and Les (for SI support) and Alan, James, Ian, Garry, Euan and Liam (for control collecting – in possibly record time!).
I look forward to seeing you all on the 29th at Horsham Park and then on July 13th at Hampden Park near Eastbourne (where I’m wearing the planner’s hat again!).

Park O Series Info
Park-Os are friendly club events, usually in parks or school grounds, where children and newcomers are very welcome. These are fun events where you can get a feeling for the sport – you can walk or run, go as a group or on your own or challenge your navigation at high speed against some of our top competitive orienteers. Yellow and Orange courses are suitable for children to run on their own with a bit of practice. Adults are welcome to shadow children until they are confident to go on their own. Sprint courses are run or walked by any age group.
The Park-O series takes place in the early summer and early Autumn and is 8 events this year. Certificates are awarded for the best placed in a variety of age categories.
