Report
Hi All, I hope you enjoyed your day at sunny Lancing. The HTML results are now posted with times excluded on legs to controls 8 and 9 due to a misplaced control 8 on the sprint course. The Orange course was also affected but the overall result was not changed. The SI team.
Planner’s notes for Lancing Manor
It was really pleasant putting out controls in the cool of early morning, but it must have been really hot running later in the morning. My sincere apologies for misplacing control 8 on the Sprint course, putting it next to the wrong thicket, and thanks to everyone who took the upset so calmly. By the time the news had filtered back, it was too late to re-site the control (although thanks to late starter Rob Lines for doing so during his run).
Lancing Manor offers three quite distinct types of terrain; a field with a wooded edge, a chalkpit with thorn scrub, and urban parkland. I hope the courses managed to mix these in an interesting way. My thanks to Neil for pointing out possibilities in this respect and to him and Chris Hooker for facilitating updates to the map. There is now a new path across McIntyre’s Field, from control 2 to control 3 on the Sprint course. I was thinking of sending a note to some Biology journal on ‘Orienteers as a seed dispersal
mechanism’, as I watched people removing the burrs they had picked up there!

Park O Series Info
Park-Os are friendly club events, usually in parks or school grounds, where children and newcomers are very welcome. These are fun events where you can get a feeling for the sport – you can walk or run, go as a group or on your own or challenge your navigation at high speed against some of our top competitive orienteers. Yellow and Orange courses are suitable for children to run on their own with a bit of practice. Adults are welcome to shadow children until they are confident to go on their own. Sprint courses are run or walked by any age group.
The Park-O series takes place in the early summer and early Autumn and is 8 events this year. Certificates are awarded for the best placed in a variety of age categories.
