Firstly, thank you all for coming. It makes the Planner’s job most rewarding to see so many people enjoy their courses. The easy runnability and visibility resulted in some very fast times.
It was a beautiful dawn, but the clouds soon swept in. Fortunately most of you had finished your run before the weather really took a turn for the worse. As an observer from near the car-park, it was fascinating to watch all the action on display. Different gaits, different route-choices, different clothing…
It is a delight to plan courses on a ‘control-rich’ area like Coates Common. I deliberately planned some short legs at the beginning of the courses to test rapid changes in direction – it did seem to catch some people out. Later, both Blue and Green courses visited the eastern area, which tested concentration and gave good opportunity for route choice. (In particular Blue 15 to 16, or Green 9 to 10. A smart choice was to drop down to the path, and approach the pit from the SW – helped by competitors coming out from the control!)
On your behalf I thank all the people who made the event possible: Mike Gammon for his excellent map, and wise contributions to my initial course planning. Karen Ashworth for her input as Safety Officer. The Taylor Family for Registration. Control Collectors – Chris Hooker and Robin Smith. SI Team: Les Coles and Ralph Phillips. Not to forget John Morris for managing the car-parking in a rather rough carpark!
Finally, many thanks to the Barlavington Estate for allowing use of their land.
Good event today at Coates Common, all went well and fun was had by all. Thanks to Alan Williamson and his team for a nice event.
The SI team will complete the results and links tomorrow (Sunday).
Thank You to Kate Turner and Barry Jones for managing the SI system during the initial registration period

SOG Series Info
SOGs are friendly club events where children and newcomers are very welcome. Yellow and Orange courses are suitable for children to run on their own with a bit of practice. Adults are welcome to shadow children until they are confident to go on their own. Green and Blue courses are run or walked by any age group - you can race competitively or just enjoy the woodland.
There are two series of events - autumn and spring, of approximately 10 events each. Electronic timing (SI) is used.
Help on the day always appreciated.
