Report

Firstly what a glorious autumnal day. From first timers to experienced orienteers it was great to see you all at our event at Tilgate Park & Forest today.

I hope you enjoyed your runs. Thank you for your feedback on the day. In due course we would encourage you to upload your runs to Routegadget to enable us to learn about the courses.

My thanks to organisers Bridget and Les, the SI team and their army of volunteers. Thanks to Neil for his map and to our SLOW controller Charlie for his technical advice at the planning stage and ensuring fair play on the day.

What a beautiful day and how lovely the park and forest looked. We were treated to four deer running and leaping along the side of the hill below the download tent before you all arrived. We hope you enjoyed the mix of park and forest. From many positive comments afterwards, you certainly enjoyed the challenge of Paul’s courses. We are very grateful to the Forestry Commission and Crawley Council for allowing us to hold the event.

It was a real pleasure to have so many people offering to help at this event. When two people needed to drop out (through no fault of their own), I had two reserve helpers ready to step in. When we realized that there was a lot of interest for the event on Twitter and Facebook, Anna and Will offered to help with Newcomers and did a tremendous job. Thank you so much to all our helpers (the SI team, the EOD Sales teams, the Newcomer helpers, the Start teams, the First Aiders, the Finish people, the Control Collectors and all those people who helped to put up the tent and those of you who helped to clear up), it was amazing.

Finally a special thank you to controller, Charlie and planner, Paul. Both were very efficient and really easy to work with.

RouteGadget

Is a web app for sharing and comparing orienteering routes. You can draw your own route or upload a GPS track from your watch. It also allows you to watch an animated replay with a simulated mass start.

Pre event info

Join us at Tilgate Park & Tilgate Forest, Crawley for a mixture of fun, fast and technical areas for all abilities from Yellow to Brown. Enjoy the challenge of running on the same area as Harvester 2018.

Online entries are now closed. Entry on the day will be available at the event. All course maps will be available, but subject to availability. Final Details published.

Regional Series Info

Open to everyone. These events offer a larger range of colour coded courses (including the usual yellow, orange, green, blue) and attract a wider group of people from different clubs. Regional events often offer a white course which is easier than a yellow and ideal for juniors wishing to try it on their own for the first time as there should be a control at every decision point. Seven colours are used with each representing a certain level of difficulty (both technical and physical). The darker the colour, the longer and harder the course.
