Planner's comments (Jane Lambert)

Thank you to the hardy KNC runners who ventured out in East Grinstead despite the threat of a very wet evening. I’m sorry I couldn’t join you, but I hope you enjoyed exploring the town’s varied areas. It is fascinating to review the results and see the different routes you chose, proving that you could achieve an excellent score without braving the woods at East Court. I hope you enjoyed the varied points format, which gave careful route planning the chance to offset speed. A huge thank you to Neil for organising the event, standing in for me on the night and sorting out results, and to Karen for her great work with the Risk Assessment.

East Grinstead is full of interest:

It's an ancient market town with a Medieval High Street, with one of the longest continuous rows of 14th-century timber-framed buildings in England. The Greenwich Meridian line passes through the town.

During WWII Sir Archibald McIndoe, a pioneering plastic surgeon, treated the men using revolutionary techniques at the East Grinstead Queen Victoria Hospital . McIndoe encouraged the men to live fully active lives, supported by the local town of East Grinstead—famously known as "The Town That Didn't Stare".
