- Southdowners reap rewards at JK2025 Festival of Orienteering over Easter
The Easter bank holiday weekend is always the time for the JK International Festival of Orienteering. This year it took place in South Yorkshire and many club members took part. Our notable results at the Sprints were Roger Maher M85 Silver, Emma Chapman W14 Bronze and Mark Johnson M10 Bronze. For the overall two day competition Roger Maher M85 Gold and Emma Chapman W14 Bronze. James Curtis showed great skill in the Trail-O and claimed top spot in the juniors. For the relays the Men's Short team won silver and the Women's short team got bronze.
The Sprint took place on Good Friday in Sheffield City Centre. Full results and routegadget maps can be found here.
Saturday was the Middle Distance Race at Tankersley, which offered a complex area of pits and depressions from old iron workings. Full results and routegadget maps can be found here.
Wharncliffe on Sunday was the venue for the Long Distance race. This time we were thrown into a mosaic of boulder strewn slopes, open moorland and forest. The longest courses had over 14km to navigate! Full results and routegadget maps can be found here.
The event culminated with the relays at Middleton Park. SO fielded ten teams from Mini Relay up to 210+ (three age classes added together have to be over 210 years). Our Men's Short team of Stan Heap, Ben Chapman and Nick Jarvis won silver medals and our Women's short team won bronze medals. Full results and routegadget maps can be found here.
Also on the same weekend the inaugural UK Orienteering Biathlon competition was held. More on that in another news post!
