• SO Juniors Qualify for Yvette Baker Trophy Final

Our team of 16 juniors put in a great performance at Worthlodge to qualify for the Yvette Baker Trophy final, the annual junior inter-club competition. Our 9 highest placed runners scored 897 points.

For many of our juniors this was their first time competing for the club and for four of our younger juniors they paired up to complete a yellow course without shadowing for the first time.

Mole Valley and Dartford Orienteering Club were also competing, but they took part in the Yvette Baker Shield event as they have smaller junior teams and the best 5 scores count towards the final result. Mole Valley scored 498 points and DFOK scored 300 points.

We started the morning off with a game of catch to learn everyone's names, then a quick team talk and kit check, followed by the warm up walk to the start. The younger juniors were set off first, making sure each of our team were 4 mins apart to comply with YBT rules.

Everyone made it around their courses, getting all their controls and in good times. There were a few mistakes made (going in the wrong direction), but everyone managed to correct themselves and get back on course. A great skill to learn in Orienteering!

Back at the hub everyone celebrated with cake and ice lollies! Well done everyone.

The final takes place on 3rd July at Irchester Country Park near Northampton. The map is pretty unusual. Take a look here and see how you would approach it!

We'd love as many of our juniors to attend as possible as everyone running helps our score. A number of our current team won't be able to make it so we need enough to make a team of at least 9.
