Knock-out Sprint fun eventLane End Common, Chailey
The Knock-out Sprint is an exciting orienteering format originally designed for TV. It’s popular at international level and is included in World Championship and World Cup events. This summer, the format comes to Sussex.
It will be a fun evening event where everyone runs 4 short 1km races in the style of a knock-out sprint competition. Athletes run in groups of 4 or 6 to see if they can return first and get promoted to the group above. In each round, one athlete will be promoted from the group and one will be relegated.
What will your tactics be?? To head out and try and win from the front, or to follow and make a sprint for the finish line. In some rounds, there may be forkings so you will still need to read your map to avoid a mispunch. Who will be crowned knock-out sprint champions by the end of the competition? A fun night out on a brand-new map. We'll round off the evening with hot-dogs.
The format is not complicated, and all will be explained on the night. The first round of races will start at 18.30 prompt. You can watch former SO Junior Jonathan Crickmore compete in the Edinburgh KO Sprint in July 2024. (It's free to watch.)
Racesignup is set up for entries so please enter your details there.
Embargoed Areas: Lane End Common is a relatively small area, and athletes will enjoy the event more if they don't visit in advance.
