At Blacklands on 11th December, we held our second training session of the season for our younger juniors. Our main focus for this session was practising turning corners whilst keeping the map pointing in the right direction.

We started by turning right and left and keeping the map lined up as we did so. Then we moved on to a 5 by 5 grid with courses that drew out ice creams, snails, houses and crowns. Once we had got the hang of this at walking pace, we competed against each other to see who could get round fastest. We finished off doing relays where they had to match control symbols to the correct map symbols.

The juniors who took part were then able to put their training into practice by taking themselves around a course whilst being shadowed by some of our very experienced juniors and senior members. Everyone had a great time and our older juniors were pleased to be able to pass on the benefit of their knowledge to up and coming children.

Look out for more training and shadowing options in the 2022.
