Junior Home International 2019 Success
Congratulations to Ffion Jones, Stan Heap, Scarlet Heap and Tommy Heap who were selected to compete at the Junior Home Internationals in Northern Ireland this weekend. Great results for Tommy Heap winning the M14 Individuals and Scarlet Heap winning the W16 Relay leg, with solid performances from both Stan and Ffion for their teams.
Ffion was running for Wales whilst the Heaps were all running for England, but it was Scotland who ultimately took the JHI title by the tightest of margins - only 1 point separated England and Scotland on day 1.
Lagan Valley Orienteers hosted the weekend with the Individuals at Cassy Water in the Mourne Mountains and the Relays at Donard Forest near Newcastle. Glorious sunshine and fabulous views on the first day, torrential rain and low visibility the next - head torches were considered! Highlight of the weekend was the Ceilidh on Saturday when 100 juniors squeezed onto a packed dance floor to 'strip the willow' and 'gay gordon' the night away.
It was the last JHI that Stan was eligible for as he moves up to M20 next year, but we hope to see more from Ffion, Scarlet and Tommy and many more of our talented SO Juniors in future JHI's. Selection races for JHI 2020 will be announced in the next few weeks, so keep an eye on our Competitions page for more info.
