Organiser’s report
Thanks to Tom Rooney for planning the courses for the event which took place in far from ideal conditions – rain from beginning to end. I did not actually meet him until the event having dealt with him by e-mail and telephone. He caught me ‘breaking in’ to his car.
The cubs and scouts from Chichester District seemed to ignore the rain and just got on with the competition. The turnout for the U12 scouts was disappointing (just two teams from two troops) but for the U14 ˝ scouts there were six teams (from the same two troops) and there were 13 teams of cubs from four packs, making 21 in all. I hope they did not get in the way too much. Presentations will be made to the winning teams during the coming week – it was not a day for hanging around at the end. 12th Chichester won the U14 ˝ and 1st Southbourne U12 and 12th Chichester won the cub event but less than one minute separated the first four teams!
The scout event has now been run for at least 26 consecutive years!
Unusually this year the cub/scout teams were not the last back and they all completed their respective courses.
Thanks to scout active support for car parking, Ed and Kasia Nichols for putting out the yellow and orange courses, Les Coles, Jaquie and Peter Drake for computers and for confirming the one ‘missing’ person had just forgotten to download, Dave McTurk for road signs and registration, Peter Couzens for help with the cub and scout registration and my assistant cub scout leader George Barrett, for helping to collect in the controls.
Finally thanks to Southdowns Orienteers for letting us use their courses again.

Many thanks to all who turned up despite the wet weather, including Michael and all the cubs and scouts.
I really enjoyed planning the event and hope to do more in the near future.
