A number of SO members travelled to Chatham Dockyard for an exciting sprint around the dry dock. The courses included whether to run over a ship or around it, under a submarine or around, through tunnels and even into a huge multi-storey lifeboat warehouse.
SO took home lots of medals!
A team of 9 juniors travelled to The Cotswolds to take part in the annual Yvette Baker Junior Finals. The competition is decided based on the scores of the first 9 competitors in your team, so we were hoping for a clean round from everyone. Our juniors didn't let us down and everyone scored to put us into 8th place out of the 12 best clubs in the country. A great effort from everyone!
Congratulations to Ffion Jones, Stan Heap, Scarlet Heap and Tommy Heap who were selected to compete at the Junior Home Internationals in Northern Ireland this weekend. Great results for Tommy Heap winning the M14 Individuals and Scarlet Heap winning the W16 Relay leg, with solid performances from both Stan and Ffion for their teams.
A weekend orienteering camp for juniors took place in the New Forest during Nov 1-3rd. It was aimed at club juniors aged 11-13 years at Orange standard (TD3) or Yellow level (TD2) aiming to improve to Orange.
Early on Sunday morning 19 members of the SO junior squad competed in this year's Peter Palmer Relays which was hosted by SAX. It's always exciting, but for the first time ever the squad was able to field four strong teams and were competitive in the main PPR as well as the daybreak competitions.
One of the highlights of the junior calendar is the Peter Palmer Relay, this year being held locally at Kidbrooke Park and Hindleap Warren, near East Grinstead. This 6-leg night/day team relay is for juniors M/W12-18, with legs from yellow to green standard. Juniors from all over the UK will be running and overnight accommodation will be based at Michael Hall School in Forest Row.
Get in touch with our junior team manager Alex Lines if you want to be part of the team. More details are on the Saxons OC website. There will be a night training session for all members on Saturday 31 August at South Chailey. Bring a torch!
