Report

Having really enjoyed the KNC planned by John Cross earlier in the season I shamelessly stole his format and scoring regime. Experience has told us that Tilgate golf course can be surprisingly tricky at night and so I wanted the main challenge to be navigating the dumbbells rather than finding the controls. Thus I tried to place most of them in easy-to-find locations. Then it was a case of planning the dumbbells in such a way that the map wouldn't look too cluttered, that competitors wouldn't be running basically the same route between different dumbbells and finally, giving enough distance to challenge the best (I reckoned that it could be cleared in a little over 10km). I also wanted to have a close group of controls with some shortish dumbbells to allow all competitors to pick up a reasonable number of points. Thanks to Joe and Penny for running download and Simon B for providing the code to allow actual scores to be displayed. Thanks also to Chris and Garry for control collection and to Sue for bringing up my flask of tea that I'd left at home.

Directions / Parking

Parking will be in the Fisherman's Car Park just before the golf course (free after 4pm). Turn left just before the entrance to Tilgate Park and follow the golf course access road. W3W: ///regime.liner.bridge. There is a 2m height restriction in the car park, if you intend coming in a taller vehicle you can park in nearby streets.

Course Information

This will be a score event with 20 controls arranged as 10 sets of dumbbells. You can get as many controls as you can, in any order, in the hour limit with each control worth 10 points. In addition each control is paired with another (71-81, 72-82 etc) and you can gain an additional 5 points if you take a pair of controls consecutively - ie with no other controls in between. They can be taken in either order eg 81 then 71 or 71 then 81. You will lose 10 points for each minute, or part minute, that you finish over the hour. The dumbbells will be marked on the map with a purple line between each connected control.
