RouteGadget

Is a web app for sharing and comparing orienteering routes. You can draw your own route or upload a GPS track from your watch. It also allows you to watch an animated replay with a simulated mass start.

Pre event info

We are offering FREE TRAIL O sessions for those of any age wanting to improve or new to the sport. The Hawth coaching session will take the form of Trail O - a special type of Orienteering where you stand at a point, look at three controls a little way away and decide which one has been marked on the map. It's a great skill to learn and will help with learning map features, visualising the terrain from the map, distance, and contours.

Please contact Karen Ashworth if you think you may be interested or if you are a parent of a junior with access to Spond, then register your interest on the app. Alternatively just turn up and give it a go. Please run your course first and then meet Karen at the 'Coaching' feather flag for a demonstration.

Park O Series Info

Park-Os are friendly club events, usually in parks or school grounds, where children and newcomers are very welcome. These are fun events where you can get a feeling for the sport – you can walk or run, go as a group or on your own or challenge your navigation at high speed against some of our top competitive orienteers. Yellow and Orange courses are suitable for children to run on their own with a bit of practice. Adults are welcome to shadow children until they are confident to go on their own. Sprint courses are run or walked by any age group.

The Park-O series takes place in the early summer and early Autumn and is 8 events this year. Certificates are awarded for the best placed in a variety of age categories.

Terrain Description

The Hawth Woods is sandwiched in the middle of The Hawth Theatre and Southgate Playing Fields. The woods were a site of great industry and the plethora of deep depressions were formed when iron ore was dug out during the Bronze Age and through into the Eighteenth Century. The woodland has an extensive network of large and small paths which makes it suitable for our less experienced competitors, whilst challenging for sprint orienteering.

Facilities

Access to the toilets inside The Hawth Theatre (please ensure shoes are clean and no spikes), also access to vending machines.

Miscellaneous

We don't have sole use of the area and it is popular with cyclists, dog walkers etc

Please bring your own water as the weather is likely to be warm
