Knowlands Map Memory Report
When thinking about this event, I wanted something that would cater for all abilities whilst incorporating a twist that would add challenge for those who wanted it. I’ve enjoyed map memory events in the past so that was the basic format I decided to use. I also wanted to use the score format in order to have competitors running in all directions! However the size of Knowlands was a problem in that I could envisage some competitors collecting the lot in 15-20 minutes and I really wanted to give you a full hour of challenge. That’s when I devised the bonus points system to give you the option of taking controls in a specific order and so lengthen your run. It seemed to work well, certainly judging by all the positive comments at the end, and it seemed that many of you were surprised at how much you could remember! I was pleased to see that most of you managed to pick up some bonus points too and that you all spent a decent amount of time in the woods.
Jonathan’s run was exceptional and Neil was very close to completing the full set in numerical order too (they both ran 10+km). And I think everyone who decided to go for the bonus points will have found that it paid off. Penny also deserves a special mention for finishing in exactly 60 minutes!
I would like to thank Mr & Mrs Lear for allowing us to hold this event, Jane for map sales and control collecting, Jaquie for SI, Gethyn for being available for emergency cover, Mike for parking and Andy and Barry for control collecting, as well as all of you for coming, enjoying your runs and giving so much positive feedback. With all of that help we were able to leave by about 9.
