Orienteering is an exciting, challenging sport that involves competitive navigation, usually in woodland or on open hillside. Each competitor uses a map and compass, choosing their own way, to find the red and white flags at the sites indicated by red circles on their map. Southdowns Orienteers is a friendly club offering local events throughout Sussex.
(Update September 2008) - Southdowns Orienteers offer midweek training sessions with the Southdowns Adventure Running Club. These sessions have a varied format, but generally all have running and navigation elements to them. A great opportunity to socialise, keep fit, and hone navigation techniques.

Notice is hereby given that the Southdowns Orienteers AGM will take place at 13.30 on Saturday June 9th at All Saints Church Hall, Cissbury Drive, Findon Valley, following the Club Handicap at Cissbury Ring.

It was the turn of the juniors to shine at the British Long Distance Champs held in the Lake District over the May bank holiday weekend.

SO will Take Part in Brighton again!

On Saturday June 23rd, SO will be joining lots of other sports clubs and activities in Preston Park in Brighton for the launch of the Take Part Festival of sport. With this summer’s Olympic Games only one month later, it promises to be an exciting day !

SO successes at British Sprint and Middle Championships

A year on from SO hosting these events only a handful of Southdowners travelled to York for the 2012 championships but returned with three medals and one championship trophy.

CompassSport Cup Final September 30th

Having won the South East Round of the CompassSport Cup plans are now underway to travel to the final which is being held just North of Carlisle on Sept 30th.
