It was very wet, but the excellent terrain, courses and mapping more than made up for the inclement weather.
Organiser Nick Barrable writes,
‘Forty six people came to sample the excellently mapped highly runnable terrain - and I only had 45 maps printed! Rain obviously doesnt deter you weirdos - great stuff and keep coming....! One chap said the mud was better here in East Kent than West Kent - not sure what he was doing.....!?
Well done to all - and especially the newbies :-)
I hope Jim McAlpin gets better soon - he twisted his ankle and retired after not even getting to any of the controls and only 19 minutes in the terrain. Nevertheless, he still managed to beat 11 of you who arrived back late and ending with up with zero or no points! Now when I say 60 minute score, that’s what I mean! We have a pub to get to and controls to collect!
Simon Maytum also managed to injure his knee and we hope that doesnt leave him hobbling for too long - afterall, next week is Bixley and Beckley (featuring ‘the hidden valley of doom’...;-) )
Great to see the PARC people popping along and we hope we can welcome you again soon for more Night O adventures, mid-week. Good to see the Burton family too bringing various ‘extras’ - always more fun in a pair if you are a night novice - and particularly impressive were Summer W14 and Evie Burton W10 , who although were a bit late back, managed to find 6 controls - many more than a lot of the adults! Great stuff.
DOWNLOADING - please remember it is PARAMOUNT that you download after the event. I normally sit by the finish but in the rain and the lack of parking by the finish I was down the road a bit, but that is no excuse! If we think you are still out we will call in the sniffer dogs and set out on a block by block search until we find your body - and if you are tucked up in bed, there could be 30 people getting wet in the rain for no reason. My Mobile tel. no (or the organisers mobile on the night) should always be on the map if you have any problems on the night (or on the saxons website), or to make contact if you are driving home and you realise. But don’t let yourself get that far!
Thanks to Martin Brice for printing the maps for free, Rob Lines, Nick Hope and Lars Stenslund for collecting in controls, Mark Nugent for help with the results; Brice and Lines for some of the prizes - sorry the prize-giving was so late this week and many had gone b4 we could do the prize-giving. We had a few issues to resolve first! Cheers to Phil at the The Dove too.
Thanks for all those who donated to the British Orienteering Support Fund.
See you next week and Bixley and Beckley - knowing if you are coming is good so we have enough maps, especially if you could tell me earlier than 12 o’clock on the day of the race! Also, if there are going to be lots of you, turning up that little bit earlier to register, if you can, or before you get changed, could mean we get away promptly at 1930 - which would be ideal :-) ‘
