Thank you to the 37 of you who braved the wilds of Crawley for the rescheduled SONiC4/KNC14 last night. The results of which are here.
As you know, on the original date everywhere was covered in approx 6 inches of snow and the event really could not have gone ahead.
Next, I have to apologise for control 99 not working – it most definitely was when I put it out earlier on Tuesday, but unfortunately, by the time you all found it, it had decided to fail on us. If you indicated on your download print out that you had been to this control, it has already been credited to your score. If you did visit this control and feel this has been missed from your results, please email me and I will amend the results.
Not deterred by the threat of rain earlier in the day, the event offered a combination of urban running, varied forest and open golf course terrain – the choice of shoes was very important. I wanted to locate the start in a different area to the last time we had a KNC/SONiC on this area to offer you more choice on the golf course, without the technical challenge of the Hawth. Judging by the results, I think I got it just right in terms of location and distance between controls and by splitting the 20 controls over two sides of the map, allowing you to start on either side and decide when to swap over. There certainly seemed to be plenty of discussion about which side of the map as the better to start on and exactly where the decision was made to swap over!
Ed Catmur managed to get all 20 controls in a time of 56.23 – his winning route was 82, 84, 88, 89, 90, 86, 83, 87, 81, 85, 94, 92, 100, 99, 97, 95, 91, 98, 96, 93. Well done to Ed. Second and third places were hotly contested by Neil Crickmore and Kenny Leitch (both SO) with Kenny taking the honours by only one second from Neil!
For those of you who joined us in the pub afterwards for prizegiving, I hope my home baked prizes went down well!
As always I have to thank Glendale Golf for allowing us use of the land and car park and the control collectors – Les & Peter, Ed, Neil & Dave and also the various people at SO responsible for land permissions, mapping, fixtures etc.
