TAKE PART in Brighton and Hove with Southdowns Orienteers

SO are supporting the Brighton and Hove International Festival of Sport, which runs from 28 June – 13 July 2008.

The Festival launched in spectacular manner with a vast circus of sporting activities staged by local clubs, organisations, and companies in Preston Park. A big feature of the festival is to encourage interest (and preferably participation) in sport by more of the general population. TAKEPART was the catchy name given to this aspect of the festival. The Preston Park event gave visitors the chance to sample the sports for free. There were also demonstrations of Parkour (free running) and BMX to wow the crowds.

Southdowns Orienteers attended the event and laid on a specially designed string course (aimed at the youngest members of the family) and a speed navigation exercise called “Challenge The Grid”. All participants won prizes of sweets (as is the general custom at these events!) and were able to find out about orienteering in general and the activities of Southdowns Orienteers. The competitive aspect of the orienteering was maintained by regularly updated results strings and prizes and certificates for the best performances in various classes. The interest and enthusiasm shown by all the participants was brilliant!

It was a long day for the Supporting team from Southdowns Orienteers (led by Anna Chapman) but, after a slightly slow start, we were all kept very busy! Thanks to everyone who helped to make the occasion a success.

SO are further supporting TAKE PART during the two week festival with the Brighton and Hove based Park series events at Hove Park/Blatchington Mill School on Saturday 5 July and Preston Park on Saturday 12 July.
