Sprint Championships pass halfway mark

The championship tables have been updated to include the first 5 of the scheduled 9 races. At this stage the best 3 from 5 count, and some clear leaders are emerging.

The most significant lead has been opened up by Southdown’s Julia Jarvis (W40) who has established herself as the fastest competitor across all Women’s classes. Nick Barrable (OK Ravinen) is holding off NOC’s Stephen Wright for the M21 title. The largest class is currently Men’s Veteran with 36 competitors in contention. Lucy Thraves finds herself in the only non-contested class, but some good performances have made her the fastest female junior.

In the men’s Super Vet class Chris Simpson has a significant lead over John Faller, the man who has singlehandly mapped or revised the majority of the venues in this year’s series.

The fastest Southdowner is probably Jonathan Crickmorre (M16), but with only two races under his belt, the highest scoring SO member is Peter Chapman. Nick Jarvis (M12) has run four consistently good races in the Younger Junior class and Chris Lambert (M18) heads up Junior Men.

As last year, Lee Kemp and Mike Hooper are neck and neck in the Senior men’s class, though this year they will do well to over-take Barrable and Wright for gold or silver. Steve Jarvis and Simon Thraves have competed at all 5 events and it’s likely to be close as they work to close the gap on Veteran Peter Chapman.

Liz Bridge has increased marginally her lead over Anna Chapman in the Senior Women’s race, but Laura Pearson is close behind and likely to provide a late challenge. Gill Smith is chasing Ruth Rhodes in the women’s Super Vet class. Ruth will be hard to beat though as she trains and competes harder than most. However far you travel to an event, however obscure, you can always be sure that Ruth will be there too.
