Sporting behaviour of SO Junior commended

Thomas Jarvis witnessed a mountain bike accident at a recent orienteering event. He unselfishly sacrificed his chances in his race and provided comfort to the injured rider.

Eric Harper (BKO), the organiser of the “Concorde Chase” orienteering event, made a special mention of Thomas in his post-event report:

“...Some of you might be aware there was a serious accident to a mountain biker which resulted in him having to be taken to hospital by air ambulance. A special mention to Thomas Jarvis of SO who saw the accident and stayed with biker until other help arrived and lost a good few minutes on his course...”

Thomas set an example which all orienteers should follow. Well Done Thomas!

We were obviously very proud of Thomas’ role in rescuing the biker.Thomas was able to tell another biker exactly where they were on his map so he could call the emergency services to direct them in.He was very calm and matter a fact about it all! J
