SO members were in Preston Park today, Sat 25th June, to Take Part in the annual Brighton & Hove launch festival for the Take Part fortnight. We had record numbers visit the SO stand throughout the afternoon with over 200 people trying either of the two activities.
The fortnight focuses on sports clubs and activities in the Brighton & Hove area and offers opportunities and taster sessions for the residents of Brighton & Hove to Take Part in.
The launch festival is usually held in mid June and Preston Park is alive with sports clubs and other activities showcasing their activities and with many offering the chance to try it out. From orienteering to mountain boarding or mountain biking, to cricket, hockey or football with a Martial Arts Zone a Health & Wellbeing Zone and a Community Dance Stage, there really was something for everyone.
We even had two lions (Hockey Club mascots) orienteering round the grid course ! The weather, unfortunately wasn’t great, but that didn’t seem to deter many people and the SO stand, with the tempting offer of free sweets was very busy most of the afternoon. We had a total of 29 runs on the String Course and a staggering 190 runs on the Grid Courses !
As always, many thanks go to the SO members who helped - Les & Sylvia Coles, Sue Crickmore, Clare Lines, Barrie & Sue Pearson, Bridget & Les Hooper, Anna, Peter, Ben & Emma Chapman and Karen Ashworth.
We will be taking part in two further Publicity Days this summer - Horsham Park on Sunday 24th July & Oaklands Park, Chichester on Sunday September 11th. Please contact Ali Hooper if you would like to know more or are interested in helping at all at one of these events.
