SO Officials Officer Wanted.

A club member is needed to take on the role of overseeing the appointment of key officials for SO’s events.  Please consider taking this on at the upcoming AGM

The officer’s key responsibilities will be:

· To co-ordinate the Planners for our highly successful (level D) SOGallopen leagues

· To appoint Organisers and Planners for the handful of other events which SO organizes each year.

The latter include several level C (former district / colour coded) and level B (former regional / badge) events.  (Recent British Orienteering rule changes now require clubs to appoint key event officials at the most important events much earlier, with non-compliance resulting in event downgrading with the obvious consequences of lower attendances and poorer finances.)

Our Fixtures Secretary produces a rolling 12-18 months of planned events, yet recently we have made regular last minute pleas for event officials.  This highlights the urgency of the need to find someone to co-ordinate our event officials.  There are no shortages of event volunteers; indeed our club members have always been very willing to play an active part in the planning and organizing of our events.  However, due to pressures on time, most members find it easier to schedule in the planning an event several months in advance rather than to take on something at short notice.

The Officer’s main practical duties are thus likely to involve:

· E-mails to lists of club members

· One-to-one approaches to members (at events, or by e-mail)

· Arranging for messages to be put onto the club website

· Regular contact with the fixtures secretary and the three area SOGallopen co-ordinators

Although this would best suit someone who regularly attends club events it does not necessarily need to be a long term club member as the job would involve very quickly getting to know other members of the club.

If you are interested in taking on this role, or perhaps doing the job jointly with others at a more local level, please come and have a chat with Steve or myself at one of our events or e-mail us via the Contacts page on the web site.

Please consider volunteering for this role; full support and advice will be given if required.
