Nick Barrable and Laura Pearson won the inaugral Hove Peg Relay competition and there were junior wins for Alex Lines and Stephanie Coulter. Click below for full results and photos.
Thanks to everyone who turned up last night. It was our largest Tuesday night event to date and there was the full range of competitor from first timers through to international superstars. Everyone seemed to have a good time and only one junior competitor rang her Dad for a lift back to the school. Hedgehopper John Harding took a dive in Tudor Close but carried on and managed a creditable 6th place. Another leading competitor was sick half way round and also carried on. So, plenty of slapstick, but no faulting competitors’ commitment on the night.
There was one item of lost property left behind which is a light blue top with white trim.
Next Tuesday will be another street event, same time, same place.
Particular thanks go to the control collectors Jane Lambert, Ali Weller, Laura Pearson, and Kenny Leitch. Also to Clare Lines and Penny and David Marsh for accompanying the juniors.

Many thanks to Rob and his team and his many friends around Hove who allowed us to have controls in their front garden. 27 was a good turn out and lots of fresh faces to orienteering. I had to field lots of questions from the many ‘newbies’ about O in SO-land. Peter Martin (SAX) had the same. Then it occured to me that more Southdowners should be here to tell them. Most of my replies started “well, er, I am not actually in Southdowns, but I think they blah blah blah.” So with such a big club, where are the Southdowners at their club night? It can’t be too far away for everyone? Of course there were some SO’ers there but I was surprised that many were not there. Maybe folks don’t want to go every week, but certainly this week was a really fun street o relay with SI - hence my making the effort to come.
The club night seems a really good way of getting new people involved and the informal atmosphere after the race was ideal for little chats with the happy participants, but there didnt seem enough SO’ers to go round (especially as some were out collecting...).
So I guess I am saying that if you havent tried an SO clubnight, why not make the effort - why not fill you car with your neighbours and take them?
Keep up the good work.

As a peg race 1st timer I really enjoyed it. Have to say the fact there was a race on lured me down to club night. Thanks Rob, excellent work!

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbour were preparing to do some research about that. We got a good book on that matter from our local library and most books where not as influensive as your information. I am very glad to see such information which I was searching for a long time. This made very glad
