Lindfield SONiC/KNC event results available

The second SONiC event of this series and combined KNC event, took place on Thursday night in Lindfield. Results are available here. SONiCLeague_1112Event2.xls along with the Planners Comments from Steve.

Thankfully it stopped raining earlier in the evening, so although wet underfoot, was dry whilst running. Thirty runners took to the streets of Lindfield for the second 60 minute score event of the current SONiC series, this time planned by Steve Jarvis.

Visiting runners Tim and Laura Britton from BOK took top male and top female honours on the night.

Planners comments from Steve:

The torrential rain we had a couple of hours before the event and the possibility of more to come during the evening clearly affected the turnout, we were about 10 down compared to last year’s event.  Yet as it happened we couldn’t have asked for a better evening for the event to take place on, apart from some soggy underfoot conditions in a few places.

The map production was a bit of an experiment.  I must thank Rob Lines for helping out big time with the computing side of the production, which was based on Ollie O-Brien’s OpenStreetMap with additional open areas and paths, etc added using OCAD.  So it looked more like a normal O-map in terms of colours, symbols, etc than some of the street-maps that get used.

I’d guessed that anyone who could visit 25 controls would be in with a shout, and as it happened 24 was the top score.  Well done to Tim for that, as as expected there were a lot of people around the 15 mark, mainly those who did a circuit on the northern half of the map. Just one person visited 28, 29 & 30 in the south-east corner, which was a bit of a trap as there was only one route in and out of that corner.  There was talk of a resident getting a bit shirty with competitors around control 24, because competitors headlights were causing her dog to go into a barking frenzy.  I guess you can never completely legislate for this kind of thing.

Thanks ever so much to Ali for inputting the results in the warmth of the Bent Arms, and for all those who came along for the post-event meal. We’ve now had three of these SONIC / KNC events in different parts of Haywards Heath and the surrounding areas over the past 4 years and we’re already thinking ahead as to which parts we can link up for next year.
