Harvester Relays 2011

Last year SO managed to win both the Mens and Womens Handicap Trophies at the Harvester relays. This year’s event is on the weekend of July 16th/17th in Sheffield.

Currently SO have six runners wishing to compete so not quite a team of 7 for the A race but one too many for the B race.
If anyone else would like to compete please let me know as soon as possible since I hope to get the entry in this coming weekend. E-mail

Information About the Harvester Relays

The Harvester event is British Orienteerings version of the long established Swedish Tiomila or Finnish Jukola relay events.
Harvester has taken place annualy since 1978 (with one year out due to the Foot and Mouth outbreak restrictions in 2001).
There are two races: a 5 person relay; and a 7 person relay. Both races start in the middle of the night with teams racing the relay event through the night and finishing after dawn. There is thus a mix of night and day legs in each race.

Southdowns Orienteers have a long record of taking part in the Harvester Relays, with (so far!) the clubs best results (winning both Men’s and Women’s Handicap Trophies) coming in 2010.

Details about this years Harvester event can be found HERE

Amended 23/6/11 by Peter C: added description of event and link to 2011 event website.
