Hi Southdowns,

I’m here to plug the rather grand sounding Saxons Bedgebury Orienteering Festival on SundayJuly 9th. Organiser Brendon Howe is really going to town with an event lasting all day, the idea being you can make a full day of it if you want, doing several courses, or visit the other attractions in Bedgebury Forest. Plus he has a deal with FC so we don’t have to pay the big car park charge (small fee comes out of entry, we’re in a different car park).

Here’s a quick summary of the courses:

1) Forest Sprint – Three different courses (Easy, Medium, Harder) aimed to test the beginner and experienced orienteer alike.

2) Bike Orienteering. Checkpoints are placed on forestry tracks within Bedgebury Forest. How many check points can you find in 90 minutes? Suitable for families and individuals

3) Trail Score – Use your map reading skills to find the best route between check points to gather as many as you can in the 45-minute time limit.

4) Family Adventure – Enjoy orienteering at your own pace with this wander through the woods – run it, walk it, stop along the way - its up to you. A 2km route through the forest to find the 10 checkpoints en route. Checkpoints are placed on or near the main forest paths and are suitable for novice juniors, newcomers and families.

Other attractions at Bedgebury: Excellent adventure play ares, Go Ape zipwires and tree climbing (BO discount), singletrack mountain bike trail (red standard), cafe, Pinetum.

It would help if you emailed Brendon if you’re likely to go, or select going on our facebook event. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
