Hi everyone,

I know that a lot of you thought I was crazy doing the Brecon Beacons 40 mile Ultra in December, well now it gets crazier…
The first time I ran (since hating it at school!) was when I started Orienteering in 2005 but in 2007 I started running longer distances with a running club… and I guess I’m hooked! So I thought it was about time I put it to good use and do a run for charity.

On the weekend of June 25th/26th, 7 of us will each be attempting to run (walk or crawl!!), the whole hundred miles of the South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne. There is no actual time limit, but we have good intentions to finish sometime on Sunday (probably at the first pub in Eastbourne!).

We are doing this in aid of Parkinson’s disease. As some of you know this was one of the diseases my father suffered from before he passed away earlier this month.

For me this will be a real test of endurance, not only on the weekend itself but also with the amount training that we are doing prior to the run.
We started building up the mileage a few weeks ago but, besides shorter training runs in the week, we will generally be doing one long training run each weekend of between 20-35 miles. So, in total, around 35-50 miles per week. Gulp!

I hope that some of you will be kind enough to help give me the incentive to do the training and complete the distance by donating to our charity page http://www.justgiving.com/100milerun2011, just donating a small amount will spur me on to complete the distance.

Thanks

My thanks to all those who sponsored us for this little trot along the beautiful South Downs.

Many of the postings on the sponsorship site said that we were potty, mad, crazy, insane and bonkers… all of these are true!

I managed to complete 100 miles spending a total time of 23 hours on my feet between Winchester and Eastbourne and really only managed to sustain a few blisters due to having wet feet from the early muddy trails on Saturday morning and the damp grass on Sunday morning.

The weather was reasonably kind except when we were south of Lewes on Sunday, climbing up from Itford Farm the sun came out in full force. Tackling the Seven Sisters and their 6 step-Sisters was exhausting.

However, we did it, and I feel a great sense of achievement for having completed it.
We have so far raised £3550.00 for Parkinson’s UK

Will hopefully see you soon at some nice short Park-O runs!
