A fine winters day with noticeable warmth from the sun during the main part of the event. The area looks simple orienteering, but we were treated to some subtle route choice challenges and plenty of scope for parallel terrain errors.

Fast running (certainly on the blue course) made quick thinking important and tested accuracy at speed. Nice to spread out of the open spaces of the Borde Hill estate into the larger area of forest in Millennium Wood, though the road crossing was rather un-nerving.

The good car park and access to toilets were a bonus. Great to see so many people there too - plenty of new faces among them.

Did you enjoy the winter outing to Borde Hill?

Excellent event with the only criticism being the road crossing. I had to wait quite a while to cross the road on the way back, although it allowed me to catch my breath.

Regarding the subtle route choice challenges, I fear they were too subtle because I reckon I missed them all! Although I ran up hill a lot between 12 and 13 on the blue, when it seems I could have gone around.

If only the weather was like that all of the time.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It makes a nice change to run around some open parkland, especially a park as lovely as Borde Hill. Hardly a non-orienteering soul to be seen other than the fishermen by the side of the ice-covered lake!

I had a great run and it was a great event all round. Can’t wait until the next SOG!

I agree - very good event. i meant to say thanks at the time but dashed away. V subtle route choices, well planned. Sogs are always good.

The orienteering was enjoyable, but the road crossing less so. Not too bad north to south, but really quite dangerous south to north. A police car came flying around the corner while I was trying to cross; fortunately I heard it’s sirens otherwise I wouldn’t be here now. At least one SO member would not have heard it - we could be attending a funeral today.
