Alan Hickling writes:

So, what has everyone been up to during those long summer (light) evening nights? Sitting in front of the tv, frustrated at the lack of night orienteering?

Well, don’t worry. The long wait is nearly over. The evenings are drawing in nicely and darkness arrives nearly early enough to justify some night-O. In anticipation of sunset arriving at 7pm ish in a couple of weeks time, the Kent Night Cup returns shortly. Event 1, of which I am the proud planner, (or alternatively, that I had my arm twisted to organise whilst sharing a car with Nick back from Shooters Hill to Tunbridge Wells) is provisionally booked for Knole Park on Thursday 18th September. Put the date in your diary now and let all your friends know too. Full details should hopefully be on Saxons’ web site this weekend.

Format will be pretty much the same as last year under the principle of if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it. Provisional details are for parking to be on the SW side of Knole, nice and handy for a pub social afterwards. There will be one score course of 20 controls and a whole 60 minutes in which to visit them. I’m sure there will also be an array of amazing prizes on offer for those taking part.

So, keep an eye on the website for full details. Let’s start the new KNC season with a bang!

Alan.

Gosh - this sounds really EXCITING stuff!

I can confirm this event is DEFO now all land pemissioned/Golf Club approved good to go, green lighted, GO GO GO.
Maybe as it is dark we will be using some of the Golf Course (keep off the greens) park of the map!?! You’ll have to be there to find out…

KNC 2 is awaiting full permission OK but is hoped to be Haysden Country Park in Tonbridge - another one close to SO-land. (25th Sept)

Full provisonal programme to be released in the next few days - you’re gonna love it :-))

Winters have never been so BRIGHT.

On Wednesday night we had a night sprint event on a golf course and it was excellent. It made me think of all the golf courses in Sussex and the enormous potential for a night sprint series. Unfortunately we already appear to have booked in events for every night of the week this winter :)

Further news for the 1st round of KNC 2008-09 at Knole Park: The White Hart are happy for anyone who has pre-booked food to park in the pub car park for the duration of their run. Anyone else who still wishes to order, let me know by 11am Wednesday () if possible.
For everyone else planning on attending on Thursday, it would be nice to know that you are coming so that we can make sure we have enough maps for everyone. For any extras requiring food, I’ll have the menu available pre-start on Thursday but it may be hit and miss if the pub starts to run low on some items - we will probably be the last people eating there that day.
Latest weather forecast is that Thursday will be a lovely sunny day, so the 1st part of your course will probably be run in twilight at worst. It should be nice and dark by the time you finish though!
