I’m intending on having two parts to the Navy course at the Blackland SENiLe and could do with some advice on how best to draw this using the Course Planning facility in the demo (i.e. free use) version of OCAD 9.

The particular problem that I’m trying to resolve is how to continue the control numbering on the second part of the course such that it is incremental from the last control on the first part. All my attempts up to now have the numbering starting at 1 again.

I’ve tried the various course types on offer (normal, relay, one man relay), but that doesn’t seem to work. I’m not sure what other options there are.

I understand that it is possible to edit the numbers using the full (paid for) version of OCAD 9 (and effectively pass the problem onto someone else to solve), but this seems a bit of a cop out!

It must be quite a common situation to overcome, as many of our local SOG events take place on small areas and require multiple loops for course length and clarity. I’m hoping that someone may have discovered the key to this problem and can enlighten me (and, I suspect, many others!).

Thanks in anticipation,

Peter

Hi Pete,

I have just sent you an email re this particular problem with the demo version of OCAD 9. I had exactly the same issue when planning at Blacklands Farm but found a useful ‘How To’ from the OCAD website.

Basically, you plan the course as usual on one map, but add in a Map Exchange at the point where you want the maps to be turned over/swapped. When printing, this will then automatically print the course over 2 maps, with the correct numbering.

It does look a bit messy on your original file (a bit like the Blue course from Southwater does in Routegadget), but on printing works really well.

The link to the OCAD ‘How To’ is as follows:

I hope this helps !

Many thanks - seems to have done the trick!

Should mean a bit less work for our OCAD/printing expert, Mike G, to have to do in future!
(I get the impression that he often sorts out this problem for people at the pre-printing stage).

The other trick to remember when using this map exchange function is to print from the “Course” pull down menu not the “File” pull down menu. The latter prints both maps on the same sheet!
