The Mole Valley website now carries details of the next event in the South-East League & Galoppen. The date is still 15th January, but the venue has moved from Ashtead and Epsom Commons.

The new venue is Holmbush & Buchan Country Park, more convenient for most Southdowners, and indeed occasionally borrowed for SOGaloppens. Cheap entries are available online via Fabian4, and close on 8th January.
What more could you want?

Information on upcoming mountain bike event received via club web-site:

Dear Rider,
Our Autumn Event is just around the corner, so please take the advantage of lower prices and register at http://www.peaslakemtbo.com Our last event was the most successful to date and hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did organising it. We received great feedback on the changes we had made to find the checkpoints and text descriptions have proven a popular addition !!
Since the last event our team have been busy over the last 6 months riding the Surrey Hills in order to identify checkpoint locations to establish a new challenging course and we will be running our Junior Trail again, this is intended to introduce young kids (up to 10 years) to mountain biking events.
Check in starts a 8.30 am, with parking open from 7.45 am. The last start time for the 3 hour event and for the Junior Trail 12.15 pm.
As always pre-registration on-line provides both guaranteed entry and also significantly reduced adult entry fees Our catering team will be there from the start, so you can enjoy a cuppa as you plan your route, and a well earned burger, hotdog and homemade cake at the end!
Please note family teams need to have at least one entrant under 16 and senior teams have to have at least one entrant over 55. __For further details visit our website at http://www.peaslakemtbo.com__The event rules remain simple:_You or your team are awarded points along the trail with each checkpoint reached; with penalty points deducted for late return._Points make Prizes - with over £200 of prizes_Book early to avoid disappointment!__All proceeds will go towards Peaslake School and the Hurtwood Control (http://www.hurtwoodcontrol.co.uk) who are both local charities entirely funded from donations.

Regards
21st August SE Middle-Distance Championships

The 2011 South-East Middle-Distance Championships will take place on Sunday 21st August, in a new area in Surrey. It’s close to the M23/M25 junction, so many Southdowners will find it more accessible than the far end of Sussex.

Details are available on the Mole Valley website.

The event was originally scheduled for the spring, but was postponed due to extensive building and landscaping works. Don’t worry, the woods are still pleasant to run through in August.

Advance entries by 14th August preferred, but later and on-the-day entries possible (unless unexpected numbers cause the maps to run out).

I have organised a team from Haywards Heath Harriers for above event for the last 2 years. This year we are short of runners. If any SO members are interested, please contact me via this site.

Event details are here:
http://www.guildfordorienteers.co.uk/northdownsrelay

This a low key event that allows you to enjoy parts of the North Downs you would rarely visit and a single leg can be fitted in at any time of the day without trespassing too much on your saturday.

Chelwood (Ashdown Forest) 6th Feb pre-entry please

Hi everyone,

we are asking all those that intend to go to the “level C” (formerly known as district/colour coded) event at Chelwood Vachery (Ashdown Forest) on Sunday 6th Feb to pre-enter using http://www.fabian4.co.uk. This is to help make organisation easier and to give us a better indication of numbers of maps to print. £1 cheaper online for adults, 50p for juniors and students. Entry still possible on the day subject to map availability.

In case you haven’t been there, Chelwood is an excellent Orienteering area with many technical features and rarely used for Orienteering in the past 10 years. We are also trying a new car park - the Ashdown Forest Llama Park. You can use the cafe without paying to enter the park itself. Those with small children might want to visit park after doing the tag course. Apparently the Llamas are also for sale, real ones - not just the ones from the gift shop!

Sean.

Father Christmas has moved from Lappland to Brighton

Not really, he could never afford a house in Brighton.

The closing date for the DFOK Westerham regional (Level B) event (Sunday 9th January 2011) is Christmas Eve! Please could all going enter so we can print the right number of maps and avoid disappointment to people entering on the day.

Car parking is back at Chartwell which means a hard standing car park and a great cafe on site. If you’ve not orienteered at Westerham before, it’s one of the most technical areas in the South East with many complex areas caused by old mine workings. Easier courses (light Green, Orange, Yellow, White) wont visit the mine workings and stick to the paths, field boundaries etc. It’s also a South East League and Gallopen event.

Details of the event (from the DFOK website): Here

On-line entries (via Fabian4 Website): Here.

Mole Family & Vets Sunday 14th November

Mole Valley are running their annual ‘added-value’ colour-coded at The Sheepleas & Effingham Forest this Sunday. This is between Leatherhead and Guildford, exit M25 at junction 9 or come up the A24 from Horsham.

The area is the north-west corner of the old White Downs national event map. The Sheepleas is undulating public open space with a mixture of deciduous woodland and grassy glades. Effingham Forest (longer courses only) is commercial forestry.

Mole Valley’s SE Veteran’s competition is one of the oldest in English orienteering, dating back to the days when the only old people’s courses were ‘veteran man’ and ‘veteran woman’. These days the trophies are awarded to the first 40+ SEOA member on Blue (men) or Green (women).

For the first time this year, new super-vet trophies are being awarded to the first SEOA 60+ on Green (men) and Light Green (women).

Additionally, there is the family competition, for groups of four who must all be related; each of the four can run any appropriate course for this (appropriate is pretty flexible, but M21’s running White will probably be ruled ineligible)!

Flyer is now available at the Mole website. The late issue of the flyer has been due to difficulty finding car parking, as the local fields have not stood up to recent rain. We now have four hard-standing car parks within easy reach of each-other (and a pub). 1km walk to the forest unfortunately.

See you Sunday?
