Southdowns Valentine Quiz Night

There’ll be a fun quiz night in Colgate Village Hall on Saturday, 11th February starting at 7.30pm. Questions will be suitable for all and there’ll be a “Last Man Standing” round (no great knowledge needed, just a bit of luck) with a cash prize! Bring your own drinks, nibbles provided. Do come - we will make teams up on the night if you come alone. If possible please let me or Chris Jepson know that you’re coming so we can anticipate numbers.

Next South-East League event 15th January

The Mole Valley website now carries details of the next event in the South-East League & Galoppen. The date is still 15th January, but the venue has moved from Ashtead and Epsom Commons.

The new venue is Holmbush & Buchan Country Park, more convenient for most Southdowners, and indeed occasionally borrowed for SOGaloppens. Cheap entries are available online via Fabian4, and close on 8th January.

First Aid at club events

First Aid cover at club events was recently raised at a club meeting.

British Orienteering rules state that the club has a responsibility to ‘ensure that appropriate first aid is easily available’. Additionally BO states that the First aid cover must be appropriate to the level of the event. They list three options that can be considered:
to hire in professional first aid Support;
to make use of voluntary organisations such as st Johns Ambulance;
to use trained first aiders who are club members or coaches.

To this end I would like to put together a list of club members who are currently first aid trained and who are prepared to occasionally volunteer as an on-duty first aider for part of an event.

If you are interested please pass on your details including certificate expiry date if known using my contact on the Contact web page. Alternatively seek me out at the next SO event. Please also feedback any comments or ideas.

Movember & dead rats………..

Can I thank my orienteering ‘friends’ who have commented on the dead rat growing on my top lip. I have failed desperately in my attempt to look like a dashing Spitfire pilot, and instead look like a seedy 1970’s porn star......!
However it is in a good cause, and if you go to the ‘Movember’ website & search for my name you can donate as much or as little as you want. As Tesco say “Every little helps” & all money raised goes to helping prostate cancer sufferers.
You have only got until November 30th to laugh at my pathetic attempt, because at midnight on that day it goes!!!
