SO entries for SE Relays and SE Sprints

As club captain I will be co-ordinating our entries for the SE Relays on Sunday August 31st in Stanmer Park. Please let me know if you would like a run - courses are available for everyone. See the following webpage for more details

I cant imagine that they will run out of EOD on the day but pre-entry will save you some pennies. I should remember to bring some fliers to the SO extravaganza this weekend :-)

10th Eridge 10 set to break record
Following the success of the Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon in February,
organisers TW Harriers are hosting the 10th Anniversary of the Eridge Park 10. A
challenging 10 mile cross country race held in Eridge Park which is this year
being sponsored by Cotswold Outdoors in Tunbridge Wells.
Entries are flooding in for the race which will be held on Sunday 14th
September and race director Allan Cheek, expects the 10th anniversary to be the
biggest and best in the history of the race.

Organised by Tunbridge Wells Harriers, the race presents a privileged and
unique opportunity to run on a traffic-free course over stunning private land
through the historic deer park and ancient woodland.

Entry costs only £10 (£8 for club runners) and represents fantastic value as
the organisers provide free refreshments including a beer tent after the
race and a t-shirt included in the entry fee.

The race is approximately 10 miles of challenging cross country and is fast
becoming one of the most popular offroad events in the area.

It takes place at 10.30am on Sunday 14th September at Sham Farm in Eridge,
just 4 miles south of Tunbridge Wells.

Organiser Allan Cheek said ‘This race is getting better and better every
year and is one of the friendliest in the south east. With stunning views, a
challenging route, plenty of parking, a popular beer tent, and free t-shirt,
it is fast becoming one of the best cross country events on the circuit. If
you liked the Half Marathon, you will love this. We are also delighted this
year to have the sponsorship of Cotswold Outdoors, the outdoor clothing, camping and
climbing shop in the Town, who will also be present at the event with a stall
and staff to chat to.’

World Masters 2009 Sydney

The Pearsons (well, Sue and I) are going to this event which is early / mid Oct 2009.

Early days but I understand that given there are many more sports involved in this World Masters event, accom may be tricky. We intend to book accom early, for Sydney and then Lithgow.

Anyone else intending to go?

European Deaf Championship Sprint

Lee Kemp is running in the European Deaf Championships at Võru, Estonia.

Lee came 13th in Monday’s Sprint competition around the town. The course was quite easy but some competitors were caught out by the proximity of mens’ and womens’ controls.

In the light of controversy at some Sussex Sprint events, it is interesting to note that six competitors were disqualified for jumping a “not to be crossed” wall between controls 12 and 13.

World Deaf Champion Tomas Kuzminskis won. Other British competitors were Ian Ditchfield (MV, 11th) and Peter O’Connell (EBOR, 28th).

White Rose relay teams

Hi All,

I’m quite happy to co-ordinate the Relay/Score event teams for the Monday at the White Rose again this year. I entered a Class A Team, as did Peter C and Jim entered a Class B team.

Welsh 6 Days/French 5 Days

For all of us travelling to the Welsh 6 Days next weekend, firstly good luck !!

Secondly, Bridget & Les are taking the Club Flag and Mike and I have a Club Tent, so assuming we’re able to pitch either or both (having read the final details) they will act as a gathering point for all SO members !

If anyone is travelling to the French 5 days instead - again good luck and I hope you have a good week !

Look forward to swapping stories and maps at the White Rose !

There’s a series of Tuesday evening events running through the summer, put on mainly by SLOW with a little help from MV. The next one is quite accessible for many Southdowners.

It’s a street-and-footpath score event around Dorking, just up the A24 from Horsham. Full details on the Mole web site

M23 Double Event Day

Hi Southdowners,

DFOK are holding a mass start 60 minute score + yellow course at 12 noon on Saturday 19th July at Happy Valley, Coulsdon (near Caterham). I wouldn’t want you to miss your park O at Horsham, but assuming you can get an earlish start time at the park O, you should have time to get to Happy Valley as well. Apres O in the pub next to the car park. You can start with no time penalty if you’re a few minutes late.
