Problem with controls

I wanted to report a problem I had with a Saxon’s event. I couldn’t see light flash on some controls at a Saxon’s event when the sun was bright because there were labels covering the light. The label said http://www.saxons-oc.org. It is not important. I am deaf and I can’t hear the control. I would like the label removed. I wasted time trying to see if the control flashed.

Hi All,

Please could you circulate this reminder about our Huntingdon Event to your members.

Huntingdon Town Urban Event on Saturday 21st April

As many of us will have our minds on the Easter Weekend at the moment, I would like to remind you that the Huntingdon Town Race takes place two weeks after Easter. This is the first event in the new South of England Orienteering Urban League. The courses start and finish in the historic town centre of Huntingdon and also run through some open spaces and interesting residential areas. The area was originally mapped by Graham Gristwood in 2010 and the map has been updated this year.

The event has pre-entry at http://www.fabian4.co.uk and the closing date for normal rate entries is Tuesday 10th April. Late entries with a £1 surcharge will be accepted until 15th April.

Stoughton Wood, 17th March

I guess we’re quite used to Southdowns local level D events being just as good if not better than many of the ranking and even championship events we attend. But I thought Stoughton yesterday morning was even better than usual. The blue course was planned to test the whole range of orienteering skills, and it stuck by and large to the best and most runnable bits of the area. But keeping a close eye on map and compass was vital if you weren’t to miss some of the trickier control sites. At various places I overshot, undershot and lost map contact, but really enjoyed the challenge posed by Ed and Kasia, and hardly noticed the rain till I was walking back from the finish. An absorbing event.

GPS Watches

I know there have been discussions before about GPS watches, but I was wondering whether anyone has upgraded an earlier Garmin GPS watch for the latest Forerunner 610, or knows someone who has ?

I’m finding my 305 can be quite slow at picking up a signal these days, which when going for a quick 5kms run during an hours lunch break at work is a little frustrating…
