SLOW wins South East qualifying round for Yvette Baker Trophy

After a couple of days’ of deliberation, the junior team from SLOW has been announced as the winners of the YBT qualifying round at Britty Wood. SLOW beat SO by 2 points, and the full results can be found here. Every SO junior who took part helped the team by pushing down the scores of other runners. There were top 3 places for six of our juniors: Lucy Thraves (Light Green) and Nick Jarvis (Orange) won their races, Bryony Crickmore (Green) and Mark Lambert (Orange) were second, and Chris Lambert (Light Green) and Hayley Collins (Orange) achieved bronze medal positions.

Dorset Delight for Southdowners

Ten Southdowners represented the club at the WSX regional ‘Dorset Delight’. It was a fine crisp morning and SO had five top 3 finishers on the steep beech covered slopes of Shillingstone Hill. Jane King won W50S, Alex and Edward Lines won JM4 and JM2, Clare Lines was second on W40S, and Carol House took 3rd on W50L.

SO Juniors face YBT results delay as re-count continues

The organizers of the Yvette Baker Trophy SE qualifying round have announced a delay to the results. The current status is that three teams are in with a shout of a place in the final. Initial calculations placed the junior teams from SO and SLOW tied in first place, with SN close behind.

Bonfire Night Party - Mon 5th Nov

To be held at Vince Joyce’s from 7pm onwards. The entrance fee is one firework. There will be a fantastic firework display and bonfire overseen by Vince with Chris Jepson in charge of the potatoes and pot of chilli - power cut permitting! Please bring your own plate, cutlery and drink.

Rivers Wood - Photos - Routegadget

Southdowns Orienteers is now officially the second largest orienteering club in the country, and the trend of increasing participation continued unabated at Rivers Wood. More than 150 orienteers enjoyed excellent courses planned by the Crickmore family which tested route choice decision-making at every turn.

Tunbridge Wells street-o KNC5 - Photos - Overall Scores

The Tunbridge Wells Harriers were hosts for the street-o round of the Kent Night Cup. Bemused skateboarders looked on as runners chased down the High St and through the Pantiles. It was another victory for Southdowners Neil Crickmore and Jonathan Crickmore who won the Gold and Silver places. Competitors were rewarded afterwards with soup and rolls in the club house, as well as with prizes from the substantial awards table.  KNC5 Photos. Overall scores. Strength in depth secures 7th place in CompassSport Cup

Almost fifty SO members made an early start to compete in Sherwood Forest for the CompassSport Cup. Club captain Neil Crickmore was pleased with the result. ‘Although the club doesn’t have a huge number of international superstars, we do have strength in depth which was demonstrated by the distribution of our top scores among many different age classes’. Neil also acknowledged the contribution made by the club’s university students who travelled the length and breadth of the country to be in Nottinghamshire for the team.  Results are here.
